Safety

Safety

Before using your electric skateboard / electric longboard, it is extremely important that you read through and fully understand the following guidelines.

Proper safety gear

Be sure to always wear proper safety gear including a helmet when riding your electric skateboard. Ride on smooth surfaces and avoid unsecure situations.
A crash when riding your board at top speed can cause serious injuries, or worse. Be careful and pay attention to your surroundings, even if you’re an experienced skater.

Not in any circumstance will we (KCKFLP Sweden AB) cover or be liable for any type of injury, property or third party damage caused by our products. Care and use is 100% the purchaser/user’s responsibility.

Legality

The legality of electric skateboards is at the moment somewhat of a grey area. California on one hand passed a law in October 2015 that allows riding electric skateboards wherever you can ride a bike. On the other hand many countries has no laws at all around the use of electric skateboards and in other countries electric skateboards are classified as electric bikes.

Since electric skateboards and other electric vehicles are very environmental friendly we sincerely believe many countries will follow Californias lead.

The responsibility of where you choose to ride and how you use our products is 100% yours. Be sure to check the legislation in your state/country before bringing your electric board to the streets.

Charging and battery safety

Most electric skateboards use lithium ion batteries, the same batteries used in laptops and cell phones. The liquid inside these batteries is flammable so you need to be careful.
First of all, you should NEVER charge the battery overnight or charge the battery longer than stated. On average it should take about two hours. Don’t ever leave it unattended as it charges and never charge a battery that you have damaged in any way.
Always let it cool down for an hour before plugging it into the charger. Keep it away from flammable objects and unplug the charger from the skateboard and outlet as soon as it is done charging.

It is very important you only use the products intended charger.

Do not use another charger than intended as this can be a serious fire hazard.

Riding conditions

Never ride your board under wet or slippery conditions. Although most electric skateboards are water resistant, they are not water proof. If water gets inside the electrical components you will have serious problems.

It isn’t safe either, the roads get slippery and the risk for having a serious accident is imminent.

Also if your board is a street board, always strive to ride on clean roads. Salt and fine grained sand can if you’re unfortunate get in to the motors. Don’t ride on beaches or on slushy roads.

Maintenance

After each ride you should deconstruct and clean your bearings, hardware, wheels, trucks, deck, and battery. Use a soft dry towel and be especially careful with the battery and electrical components. Make sure all visible screws and bolts are firmly screwed.

General

Get to know your board. Start slow and learn.

If during a ride something doesn’t feel quite right or the board acts “irrational”. Stop and contact us or the manufacturer.

We like to do the comparison with a car:

“If this was a car, would I get on the highway and drive 100km/h?”
